CIA Document Reveals 1950s Plan to Manage UFO Sightings and Public Perception

(Natural News)—A recently resurfaced document from the National Archives of Australia suggests that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was actively preparing for a potential alien invasion during a surge of unexplained sightings in the summer of 1952.

The document, titled “Scientific Intelligence – General – Unidentified Flying Objects,” details how the CIA, in collaboration with the U.S. Air Force, managed public perception and conducted covert investigations into these sightings, many of which were concentrated in Washington, D.C.

The document, shared on X by user Disclosure Party, highlights a period of intense UFO activity and the measures taken by the U.S. government to control the narrative. In the summer of 1952, unexplained sightings were more than 20 times the normal rate, leading some Air Force members to speculate that these were “interplanetary spaceships about to make closer contact.”

This speculation prompted the CIA to step in, using Project Blue Book as a means to manage the situation and reduce public alarm.

Project Blue Book: A tool for public debunking

Project Blue Book, which ran from 1952 to 1969, was officially tasked with investigating reports of aerial phenomena to determine if they posed a threat to national security. However, the document reveals that the CIA used the project to “prepare the public for [the possibility of contact]” by releasing 41 previously classified reports between August 1952 and February 1953. These reports were part of a broader strategy to “erect a facade of ridicule” around UFO sightings, thereby reducing public interest and concern.

The CIA’s approach involved attributing most sightings to misidentified natural phenomena such as weather balloons, aircraft lights or atmospheric conditions. To disseminate this information, the agency leveraged TV shows, newspapers and even considered collaborating with the Walt Disney Corporation. The goal was to “reduce the current gullibility of the public and their susceptibility to clever hostile propaganda,” as stated in the document.

Covert investigations and military collaboration

Despite the public facade, the CIA and the U.S. Air Force continued their investigations in secret. The document indicates that the U.S. and Australia collaborated to investigate strange sightings, and the CIA used the findings to develop advanced aircraft that could mimic UFO performances, including anti-gravity technology. The early analyses of UFO reports by USAF intelligence suggested that the phenomena had flight characteristics so advanced that only an extraterrestrial origin could be considered.

In February 1953, the CIA made it appear as though the investigation had been abandoned, allowing the agency to study the cases in secret. The Project Blue Book team was gradually reduced to a core of 10 qualified personnel operating at a top-secret level, and eventually to just a single officer, sergeant, secretary and part-time consultant. To maintain secrecy, the CIA threatened potential whistleblowers with up to 10 years in jail and a 10,000 fine, which was later increased to 20 years in prison a 10,000 fine under the Espionage Act.

Ascension Peptides

The document also reveals that the CIA used government funding to continue UFO data collection and fund other projects, such as the Canadian Avro saucer. The Avrocar, a supersonic, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) fighter-bomber, was initially funded by the Canadian government but was taken over by the U.S. Army and Air Force in 1958 when the Canadian government withdrew support due to costs. The CIA designed the Avrocar to appear like a “flying saucer,” further blurring the lines between military technology and UFO phenomena.

By 1957, Project Blue Book had analyzed thousands of reports and claimed that only 14 out of 1,006 sightings remained unidentified. The document states that consultants statistically tested the unknown object population and found the probability of these being similar to identified objects to be less than one in ten thousand trillion to one.

The resurfaced document provides a fascinating glimpse into the U.S. government’s efforts to manage public perception and conduct covert investigations into UFO sightings during the 1950s. The CIA’s strategy of using Project Blue Book to debunk UFOs while secretly investigating advanced aerial phenomena underscores the complex and often contradictory nature of government intelligence operations.
