(DCNF)—Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson predicted Thursday on his show that Democrat Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will be booted out of his Senate seat by Democrat New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
In April, early polls showed Ocasio-Cortez had major support in New York for Schumer’s position, following the senator receiving massive backlash after voting to advance a GOP spending bill. While discussing Schumer’s recent callout of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after a Mexican Navy ship crash in New York, co-host Jack Fowler recalled the Democrat’s response as he spoke with Hanson.
“I think it was more incriminating. He suggested that cuts to the Coast Guard’s vigilance allowed this to happen, which was untrue. He’s really deteriorated. He was the one, remember, in 2020, he got out in front of the Supreme Court and said, ‘Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, you’ve sowed the wind. You’re going to reap the whirlwind. You don’t know what’s going to hit you,’” Hanson said.
“He was the one that urged, more recently, that Democratic progressive operatives go down and disrupt town halls and Republican districts. He calls for violence almost,” Hanson added. “He’s in an existential crisis.”
After a Mexican Navy tall ship on a diplomatic voyage crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge on May 17, Schumer took to X and stated that he would look into “whether Trump and DOGE have impacted water traffic control.”
While Schumer has continued to push back on the Trump administration with other Democrats, the senator received backlash from colleagues after aiding Republicans in March to advance the stopgap government funding bill backed by President Donald Trump.
Soon after the vote, calls from fellow Democrats began to circulate in the media for Schumer to step aside.
“I think he’s 73, and he’s an institution, and he’s not going to go out like Dianne Feinstein. You know what I mean? To the last micro energy bolt, just die literally in the saddle. He’s going to be out. They’re going to vote him out,” Hanson said.
“AOC is going to vote him out. He knows that. So now he’s sort of, as I said, he’s like Tiresias and Cadmus in Euripides’ [The] Bacchae. He’s an old man that puts on a costume and tries to dance around like he’s young and try to out AOC, and he can’t,” Hanson added. “So he tries to blame Trump for everything. There’s so many clips of him prior to 2016 praising Trump to the skies as a businessman and a friend. He has no identity, and he’s caught now.”
After reports began to circulate from Democrats publicly coming out against Schumer, a poll released by left-leaning data firm Data for Progress said that 55% of Democrat-likely voters said they would support Ocasio-Cortez in a potential Senate race, with only 36% backing Schumer.
Additionally, in a CNN/SSRS poll from March, 10% of respondents chose Ocasio-Cortez as someone they believed could be the next leader for their party, with only 2% writing in Schumer along with a handful of other names.
