(DCNF)—Smith College, which claims to be a female-only institution, awarded Rachel Levine, the former Assistant Secretary for Health under the Biden administration, an honorary degree on Sunday.
Levine, a man who claims to be transgender, is a fervent supporter of sex change surgeries for children. The 150-year-old Massachusetts-based college, which purports to be “for women,” admits male students who identify as females — like the Biden-era health official.
Levine addressed Smith College’s Class of 2025 after receiving his honorary degree, according to The College Fix.
Smith College’s Mission and Commitment statement specifically affirms a commitment to equity that “requires [the college] to remove obstacles to full participation and recognition for members of our community, and to pursue corrective justice for those unfairly denied full participation and recognition.” The college has been accepting male students who identify as women since 2015, according to World News.
The day before the commencement ceremony, members of the Women’s Declaration International (WDI), an organization advocating for “sex-based rights,” stood in protest outside Smith College.
“I don’t agree with allowing men who identify as women in our sports or our spaces,” said a female protester.
Kara Dansky, an American attorney, women’s rights activist, and author, congratulated “all the female graduates” of Smith College on X, saying conversely that Levine “is a man who does not deserve this honor.”
Scarlett Johnson of Moms for Liberty similarly posted to X on May 19, claiming that Smith College has no desire to “honor and respect women.”
Activist Riley Gaines also posed in protest of the honorary degree, stating on X, “Ladies, congratulations — your graduation was led by the very thing feminism was allegedly fighting.”
Other honorary graduates from Smith College in 2025 include Danielle Allen, director of the Democratic Knowledge Project-Learn, Evelyn Harris, a vocal artist who “weaves political activism with harmony,” and Preeti Simran Sethi, a “Nova Institute Media Fellow advancing Asian mental health and well-being through medicines, healing modalities, and altered states of consciousness that are indigenous to Asian cultures,” according to Smith College’s website.
Smith College has since revoked musician Evelyn Harris’s degree because the commencement speech she gave on Sunday was plagiarized, MassLive reported on Tuesday.
